The Battle of Trafalgar - Tableau at Madame Tussauds
This tableau disappeared when Madame Tussaud's installed the
Spirit of London dark ride in 1993 and this part of the building became
a cafe and waiting area for the ride. Until then, and from 1967, it was a two level recreation
of the gun decks of the HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar (allbeit static) complete with sound,
lighting, figures and smoke (at least in the publicity photograph).
I personally don't remember any smoke when I was there in 1987, but having spoken about it to the fellow who supplied the smoke machine to the original installation in 1967, the smoke machine used was a Concept MkV unit - an oil based smoke machine (for which spare parts are still available today! Please contact us if required!). No smoke present in 1987 may have been due to the proximity of the cafe and potential for drift. I'm not sure how long after 1987 the tableau lasted, but the Spirit of London ride opened in 1993.
